To what extent did I choose an issue that I genuinely care about?

 

Out of all of the issues that are out in the world, I feel that I care the most about the digital world and my personal privacy. I genuinely feel that the privacy in our daily lives is not being respected to the full intentions that it should be. On top of that, people can’t begin to address such an issue without being educated on it. Therefore, it was only appropriate to fill the need for awareness of our personal information and it’s safety.

How does my proposal align with my own strengths, interests, especially in light of what I’m thinking about doing for my action project for Senior Project?  

 

My senior project relies on the idea that virtual reality reduces psychological fears. The privacy issue will tie in perfectly with my senior project due to personal information now being stored and easily visible through virtual reality. Through undescribable methods, people are capable of getting a hold of personal information such as our fears and how we choose to embrace these fears. 

 

The proposal I designed aligns with my strengths not necessarily in the film aspect but in the psychology part of it. How we need to understand how people learn and process ideas when they don’t really want to. I thought The Glass Room was a fantastic idea due to its method of teaching without the “student” being aware. It all comes down to my never-ending question of what people do what they do.

What did I learn from this process that will help me with my senior project?​

 

Other than the issue itself being able to connect to my senior project, I’ve also been capable of tying certain concepts together. I wasn’t fully aware of what was at my fingertips, how someone is probably doing or has done an idea similar to the path I want to take. I want to use the Approach Analyze section within my senior project. To be able to view ways to present ideas like using virtual reality as a tool.

When it comes down to research skills, I feel that I am forever improving here. There was one part of this project where when I searching for approaches, even changing the wording of what your asking creates so many different google results. Also! The abstracts of academic papers are ideal and super helpful in determining whether this is the source I want to use or not. 

 

What was the most valuable/informative/interesting part of this assignment?

 

I don’t think I was capable of bringing in the work I did in part 0, the throughline podcast, but overall I thought it was a great source of some general information. Even knowing that you have the slightest idea of what the past of a certain topic is, is powerful. As the podcast was part of the assignment, I didn’t find it necessary, but I did find it interesting. 

 

What is one thing I could have done to improve this project the most?

 

One thing that I could have done to improve my project the most could be referring to the rubric more often. This is something that I can improve on in general, even in unrelated classes such as my pre-calculus. I know I am good at reaching out when needed and turning to sources such as Ashley’s Digital Portfolio, but now that I look back, it would’ve been more useful to review the rubric. I am aware that I am about to do this as step 2 of part 5, but even the rubric for the cover letter might be something I want to check soon. What I am saying though, is that I should have been capable of doing this while creating and developing the project.
